Losing Weight: What you need to know
When it comes to losing weight, everyone knows basically what they need to do: eat fewer calories and exercise more. However, if you search the Internet or go into a bookstore, there are countless diet plans, magic pills, and other products guaranteed to give you amazing results with next to no effort on your part. Well, if your goal is to just lose a couple pounds of water weight for a day or two, and don’t mind regaining it all right away, then go right ahead and try some of them. However, if you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off, then you need to be ready to do some work.
I’ve put together some of the best tips from the American Dietetic Association and nutritionists to help anyone lose weight and get into shape.
#1: Drink lots of water. When you feel that you’ve had all the water you can handle for the day, then you need to drink another cup. Replace juices and sodas with water. If you really can’t stand the taste of water, well, you’re not alone. I’m not a huge fan of plain water either. Try adding a splash of lemon or just a dab of juice to help give it flavor, but not enough to add to the calories. Water is great because it helps to flush toxins out of your body, helps your body break down and flush out fat, and also it helps you to fill you up. Many people find that if they drink a glass of water before they eat, they find that they are less likely to overeat.
#2: Focus on what you should be adding to your diet. That’s right, adding, not taking away. You should try to eat at least six to nine servings of fruit or vegetables every day. By eating so many servings of fruit, you are less likely to be eating foods that are high in sugar and fat. Also, the fiber that is in fruit and vegetables will help you to feel full and help you stay healthy.
#3: Beware of nighttime snacks. How often do you, like many other people, sit down in front of the TV with a bowl of ice cream, box of cookies, or bag of chips. You’re not even necessarily hungry, but you’re used to snacking on something at night, so that’s what you do. Now this can be a hard habit to break, and many people feel that they deserve to “treat” themselves after a hard day’s work. So until you are comfortable giving up this routine, try to find a sensible alternative. Limit yourself to a small scoop of low-fat ice cream. Even better, have some vanilla yogurt with fresh strawberries on top.
Losing weight can be discouraging, but you can do it. These simple tips are guaranteed to help you in your efforts.
